How did the Old Pueblo become the Old Pueblo? Although ancient people and later the Hohokam were living along the banks of the Santa Cruz River 4,000 years ago, August 20, 1775 has become Tucson’s official birthday. Join public historian, Ken Scoville to learn more about the founding of the Old Pueblo and how a simple Spanish Presidio became the city we know today. Ken will discuss historic places still existing today that you can visit to better understand Tucson. Water, architectural traditions, the struggle to hold onto the old ways, inevitable changes which came with new modes of transportation, and population growth will also be covered. Come wish Tucson a Happy 247th and deepen your knowledge of our Old Pueblo along the way!
