Are you up for a challenge? Tohono Chul is partnering with Pima County Master Naturalists and other local organizations for the 2022 City Nature Challenge! Started in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in and around their cities, using biodiversity recording apps like iNaturalist. This annual four-day global challenge works toward a common goal of documenting biodiversity, while engaging people and connecting them to nature.

Part 1 of the City Nature Challenge (April 29 – May 2) – citizen scientists will find and document WILD plants, animals, fungi, lichen, etc. found in our region. Tohono Chul will host a BioBlitz on Sunday, May 1st from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Participants will break up into groups to explore and document their findings along the South Loop Trail and the Desert View Trail using the iNaturalist app. Volunteers, Docents, and staff will be available to help with identifications and observations during the event.

Part 2 of the City Nature Challenge (May 3 – May 8) – citizen scientists will upload their photos and observations made during the four-day challenge to iNaturalist and they will automatically be added to the Pima County City Nature Challenge project. Help identify other citizen scientists’ observations or learn more about your own observations as identifications are confirmed and become research grade.

Free Admission for participants in Tohono Chul’s BioBlitz!
