SUMMARY:Sculpture Tour Meet Up at The Land With No Name Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Sculpture Tour Meet Up at The Land With No Name Sanctuary \nFriday | April 3 | 10 am to 3 pm | $90 members\, $120 general public \nMeet us for a sculpture tour at the Land With No Name Sanctuary! This guided sculpture tour led by Ted Wade Springer covers approximately five acres and includes a half mile hike in high desert grassland at 4500 ft elevation. Please note\, the hike includes uneven terrain and a 200 ft elevation gain. Nacho Flores will join the tour\, adding his experience of the region as a weaver and member of the Tohono O’odham Nation. James Schaub\, Director of Arts\, will also be there to share his knowledge of sculpture along the way. Stories are shared in the oral tradition of the 30 plus sculptures and their makers throughout the journey. \nAfter the tour we will gather for lunch on the outdoor patio. Kate Long Hodges will provide prickly pear juice and mesquite chocolate chip cookies. Kate will facilitate a conversation and discussion with Nacho about his perspective concerning Tohono O’odham life – past\, present\, and future. Questions are welcome\, as this conversation is one of many at the Land bringing cultures together to learn from one another. Nacho and Kate have been friends for years\, together they have been building this conversation recognizing that these practices build respect and appreciation for unique qualities within individuals. \nLogistics \nThe Land with No Name Sanctuary exists off the grid\, past the end of Sierrita Mountain road about 35 miles southwest of downtown Tucson. This meet-up style artward bound ed-venture will meet at the Bisbee Breakfast Club / Starbucks parking lot (4633 W. Ajo Hwy Tucson\, AZ 85757) at 10 am. Roads to the Land can be rough and high-clearance vehicles are recommended. Carpooling is necessary. Please indicate if your vehicle is capable of the journey and if you can accommodate additional passengers. If you have any questions or concerns about logistics\, please contact exhibits@tohonochul.org . \nPlease pack a sack lunch and a water bottle.
