Discover weird and wonderful desert-friendly plants from local vendors at Tohono Chul’s annual Monsoon Madness summer plant sale!
Compared to flowers like petunias or marigolds, cacti, and their cousins are pretty strange-looking plants. But for the strangest of the strange—those highly unusual cacti, succulents, and euphorbias—you need look no further than our annual Monsoon Madness Plant Sale at Tohono Chul!
Over 20 specialty growers of the weirdest and wildest varieties will showcase their bizarre, boutique botanicals this year under the shade of our Sonoran Seasons Garden’s ramadas and inside the Garden Pavilion. Meet the growers of these specimens and learn about the evolutionary advantages conferred by even the strangest of features: from dense, curlicue spines on certain cacti, to little translucent “windows” in a variety of succulents. Or, talk to the growers about their trade and learn how they care for their living wares.
The sale will feature vendors, artists, and volunteers to help you with wagons to haul around your newest prickly friends. We will have refreshments like cold drinks and lite bites available for sale from our very own Bistro from 5-9pm during Friday’s sale which takes place during Chillin at the Chul, our weekend happy hour for hanging out with friends, food, and fun under the shade trees.
Don’t forget that once you’ve selected your favorites from a plethora of peculiar, edible, showy, and trickster, native, near-native, and exotic species, you’ll be able to pair them with the perfect pot(s) from our greenhouse. Browse for unique jewelry, books, and gifts in our museum shops since they will be open for the event. Admission is FREE during the sale!

Explore la selección de los vendedores locales de plantas extrañas y maravillosas adecuadas para el desierto y adaptadas a las zonas áridas. Reciba con los brazos abiertos la magia de la temporada de monzones y descubra tesoros únicos mientras aprende de los expertos. ¡La entrada es gratuita! ¡No se pierda esta inolvidable experiencia!
Descubra las extrañas y maravillosas plantas adecuadas para el desierto de los vendedores locales en la venta de verano anual de plantas “En el frenesí de las tormentas” del Tohono Chul.
En comparación con otras flores, como las petunias o las caléndulas, los cactus y sus parientes son plantas de un aspecto bastante extraño. Pero para conocer las más extrañas —esos cactus, suculentas y euforbias sumamente inusuales— tendrá que asistir a la venta de plantas “En el frenesí de las tormentas”.
Este año, más de 20 productores especializados en las variedades más extrañas y silvestres exhibirán sus extraños productos botánicos bajo la sombra de las ramadas de nuestro Sonoran Seasons Garden. Conozca a los productores de estos especímenes y aprenda sobre las ventajas evolutivas que otorgan las características más extrañas: desde las densas y rizadas espinas de algunos cactus hasta pequeñas “ventanas” translúcidas de algunas suculentas. Hable con los productores sobre su oficio y descubra cómo cuidan sus productos vivos.
En el pabellón habrá vendedores, artistas y voluntarios que lo ayudarán con carros para transportar a sus nuevos amigos espinosos. Habrá refrigerios, como bebidas frías y bocadillos ligeros, a la venta en nuestro propio bistró, así como actividades para niños.
