Horsehair baskets were first produced by the Tohono O’odham as miniature versions of their yucca and beargrass baskets. In the 1970s, the weavers became more accomplished and their stitches finer. More complex designs and figures were added. One of the earlier innovators was Dorina Garcia. This tiny, two-inch basket depicts the annual saguaro harvest.
