SUMMARY:Stacks Book Club | This is Not About Us Author Event ft. Allegra Goodman
DESCRIPTION:The award-winning\, bestselling author of ISOLA\, Allegra Goodman\, joins Stacks to talk about her new book THIS IS NOT ABOUT US at the beautiful Tohono Chul gardens. \n\nWHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: \n\nThis is a ticketed event with tickets being sold through Stacks Book Club. Each $29 ticket includes a hardcover copy of THIS IS NOT ABOUT US (retail $29).\nCheck-in will start at 5:15pm with the event starting promptly at 6:00.\nWe’ll have a moderated discussion with Allegra Goodman\, followed by a Q&A with the audience\, and a signing line to conclude the evening.\nTohono Chul will be hosting a cash bar (please remember to bring your ID).\nTickets are non-refundable\, but if you are unable to make it to the event\, your signed book will be saved for you to pick-up at Stacks Book Club Oro Valley any day after the event.\n\nABOUT THE BOOK \nA kaleidoscopic portrait of a modern American family—steadfast\, complicated\, begrudging\, and loving. \nWhen their beloved sister passes away\, Sylvia and Helen Rubinstein are unmoored. A misunderstanding about apple cake turns into a decade of stubborn silence. Busy with their own lives—divorces\, dating\, career setbacks\, college applications\, bat mitzvahs and ballet recitals—their children do not want to get involved. As for their grandchildren? Impossible. \nWith This Is Not About Us\, master storyteller Allegra Goodman—whose prior collection was heralded as “one of the most astute and engaging books about American family life” (The Boston Globe)—returns to the form and subject that endeared her to legions of readers. Sharply observed and laced with humor\, This Is Not About Us is a story of growing up and growing old\, the weight of parental expectations\, and the complex connection between sisters—a big-hearted book about the love that binds a family across generations. \nCLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE & GET TICKETS

SUMMARY:Wild Chile Botanical Area 25th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 29th | 6 – 8 pm | Pavilion\nThis year marks the 25th anniversary of the Wild Chile Botanical Area\, home to over 25 different crop wild relatives\, including some of the northernmost populations of chiltepin (Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum) in the world. These wild cousins of domesticated crops carry valuable genetic traits\, such as drought tolerance and disease resistance\, that are essential for resilient foodways. This reserve is more than a protected landscape\, it’s a story of people coming together. Scientists\, land stewards\, and local partners. \nThe wild chile connects us across cultures and across borders. It is food\, medicine\, and cultural heritage. Join special guests from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute\, New York Botanical Garden\, Borderlands Restoration\, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for a one night only salon-style discussion exploring the past\, present\, and future of the Wild Chile Botanical Area. Together we can better understand\, protect\, and celebrate this remarkable plant. This exciting program will open with a short visual storytelling piece and close with a live audience Q & A. \nThis program is a collaboration between Tohono Chul and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Special thanks to the Lovejoy Center at the University of Arizona for making this important event possible. \n$10 Members | $15 General Public \nBeverages and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. \n  \n\nThe Lovejoy Center advances the science and practice of biodiversity conservation through research\, education\, and cross-sector collaborations.
