Mexican Tree of Life (Arbol de la Vida) sculptures are traditionally made with hand coiled pottery and often depict biblical scenes. Decorative themes have evolved and include flowers, animals, and even Day of the Dead motifs. We are putting a paper spin on this ceramic tradition! In this two-day workshop with Sandy Villegas of Luna’s Paper Designs you will learn how to make a beautiful Puebla traditional Tree of Life using papier mâché. Your structure will be made with papier mâché and decorated with paper clay animals, plants, and flowers of your choice. We will use acrylic paint to finish up your unique sculpture. You will also learn the history of Trees of Life in Puebla and the state of Mexico. All materials are provided. You are welcome to bring snacks and a drink.
