Agaves played a central role as multi-use plants providing food, fiber and beverage to pre-contact and historical Mesoamerican cultures. However, their importance to Indigenous Peoples in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico is less well known. Join one of the world’s foremost experts Wendy Hodgson, Herbarium Curator Emerita and Senior Research Botanist at Desert Botanical Garden, to learn more about the amazing research she has undertaken to rediscover and describe five of the six cryptic agave species that pre-contact agriculturists once cultivated in modern Arizona. This program includes a one-hour talk and live Q&A with the audience.
