The Exotic Sublime | on plants
Main Gallery

THE EXOTIC SUBLIME | on plants will present a contemporary florilegium of plant life in the Sonoran Desert. Plants of all shapes and sizes, from basin to range, survive across five seasons— they seed, climb, roll, spread, poke, bloom, root, stem, branch, wither, bud, flower, and fruit. Mysterious, medicinal, and magical life cycles thriving or threatened adaptably ever-changing. We witness – in macrocosm or microcosm – the effects of time in slow dissolution or methodical accretion; cautionary and symbiotic tales combine what this place used to be with what this place will become. The voice in between, the creative and artistic resolve, is a visionary current toward the odd and wondrous grandeur of The Exotic Sublime.

Dana Smith | The Sonoran Desert: a model for surviving the sixth extinction
Entry Gallery

Sonoran Desert: A Model for Surviving the Sixth Extinction brings attention to armored desert microorganisms and insects that have learned to adapt to extreme heat and long-term drought. Because our future environment will be one of extremes and hellish conditions, these resilient creatures have a lot to teach us. We can learn from their secrets as we enter the era of the Anthropocene, and concern arises over our own adaptability.
