Upcoming Performance
Puerta-Vasquez Guitar Duo
Sunday, March 1st | 1:30 – 3 PM
The Puerta-Vázquez Duo, formed by guitarists José Luis Puerta and Alfredo Vázquez, is a dynamic ensemble dedicated to expanding the guitar chamber music tradition. Officially established in 2020 after more than a decade of collaboration, the duo has built a reputation for artistic refinement and innovative programming.
Both artists are alumni of the University of Arizona, where they studied under the legendary Sérgio and Odair Assad, an experience that profoundly shaped their ensemble artistry and interpretive depth.
In 2022, they released their debut album, Appunti (Constrastes Records), featuring a rare two-guitar setting of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s unfinished pedagogical masterwork Appunti (Preludi e Studi facili per Chitarra). With permission from the Tedesco estate, the recording brings new life to an often-overlooked cornerstone of the guitar repertoire.
Committed to broadening the contemporary duo canon, the Puerta-Vázquez Duo has commissioned new works by emerging Latin American composers and recorded premiere pieces by the late guitarist-composer Leonardo Egúrbida, honored in their upcoming album Intercambio.
The duo maintains an active concert schedule across the Southwestern United States and Latin America, captivating audiences with their expressive synergy and dedication to the guitar duo art form.
